whatever the weather
we OPERATE 365 DAYS A YEAR

Every night and during the day at weekends and Bank Holidays, Norfolk Blood Bikes transport blood, plasma, platelets, samples, vaccines, and any other urgently required medical items to hospitals in Norfolk.  We also deliver blood to the East Anglian Air Ambulance which allows them to extend their life saving capability.

With a dedicated fleet of fully liveried vehicles we will go no matter what the weather.

Despite operating to a fixed operational schedule, we also undertake tasks during the day if requested.

Most Donor Breast Milk (DBM) runs are carried out during the day, freeing up the fleet and Volunteers for the urgent tasks during the fixed duty cycles.

Run by passionate
local volunteers

Many of our Members are retired or work part time, however a high percentage have full time Jobs.

Regardless of employment, many consistently give their spare time to help run and maintain the charity.

The Trustees, Committee and Volunteers take no payment for their time.  Out of Pocket expenses can be claimed, but often are not.

Coming from a variety of backgrounds they all have one thing in common:  the desire to deliver a service that, supports the NHS and makes a difference to the Health Organisations throughout Norfolk.

saving the
NHS money

At night, during the day at weekends and Bank Holidays, the NHS has no in-house provision for unplanned transport demands for samples, blood products etc.  Often these requirements are urgent

Without that capability ‘in-house’ the hospitals would use expensive taxis, couriers or re-task Ambulances.

Using an average cost of £65 per task, we estimate that over the time it has been operating NBB has saved  the NHS a substantial amount of money.  That money that can be passed on to provide funding for more appropriate frontline patient care.

At no cost to the NHS, Norfolk Blood Bikes receives no Government funding and so relies entirely on donations to keep them on the road.
